I think he doesn't realize that A IS 440 cycles per second. But of course,
he HAD to open his mouth and say "woof, woof, woof."

The octave is 12 half tones (on a piano). To find out what A sharp (just
below "middle C") would be, you'd multiply 440 (which is frequency for A) by
the "12th root of 2." 880 is one octave above "middle A." And 220 is one
octave down from "middle A." It was all very simple - except that getting
the 12th root of two from scratch was a bit of a chore. I know how to
figure out the cube root of any given number (on paper) - so it wasn't
hard - but it was a chore. I'm sure there has to be a calculator that can
do that - but still, in order to get the 12th root, you'd have to know to
take the cube, square and square again, root of each answer.

Cube root of 2 = X
Square root of X = Y
Square root of Y = WHAT YOU WANT (12th root of 2). Then you divide the
closest Note A by that until you get close to 23. But you'd have to already
know that middle A was 440. Tuning fork - is 440 - note is A.

Apparently, Frenchmoron from Down Under doesn't realize that. Pray tell,
could he be Mr. Ian Bac..... (don't want to out anyone). Sounds like it.
HA HA.

The math was not the point I made (but apparently Frenchy has an issue with
it). It was a sincere person asking a favor. That was the point. I'll
tell you this much - I got the answer to it faster than I was able to find
that damned url for a reference to Amerindian presence in S. America 55
thousand years ago. And someone wonders WHY I don't find and fetch
references? Heh. TIME. That's why.
