Why Trichomonas vaginalis may increase HIV infection
Copyright 2007, James Michael Howard, Fayetteville, Arkansas, U.S.A.
It is my hypothesis (1985) that low DHEA increases vulnerability to the
HIV. The first reports of low DHEA in AIDS appeared in 1989. I also
developed the hypothesis that the symptoms of AIDS are due to loss of DHEA.
Since it has been reported that Trichomonas vaginalis may increase
vulnerability to HIV infection, one should know that T. vaginalis increases
prolactin production (J Eqypt Soc Parasitol 2000 Apr;30(1):287-94).
Prolactin is a direct stimulator of DHEA. When prolactin is high, a case
may be made that DHEA is low in that DHEA feeds back to reduce prolactin
when DHEA are optimal. I suggest the connection of T. vaginalis and
increased HIV is reduced DHEA.
