Steve,

Inger has written about this before. She seems to think (when
it suits her, anyway) that there is a difference between
replying above a previous post and replying below a previous post.

From what I can gather, she sees top-posted comments as
absolved from responsibility for any abusive language in the
previous post, while bottom-posted replies that don't
specifically disown abusive language in the replied-to post, in
fact agree with that language.

I wonder whether she means that something 'sub-scribed' as in
'written under' (especially, I suppose, with a sig at the end)
means that the 'sub-scriber' 'subscribes to' or agrees with the
sentiment of the prior post. Sort of like signing a legal
document at the bottom, suggesting that the signer read and
agreed to the terms of the document.

I know of no such provision in usenet etiquette, or in normal
communication. Do you, or does anyone else, know of any such
provision?

I've asked Inger to help me understand what she means by this.
  Maybe she will.
