Eric,
Of course I'm 'not what [I] used to be.' I used to be patient
with Johansson. I used to tread lightly around her, always
hoping that that behavior might be repaid by better behavior
from her. I used to go haring off following those 'hints' of
hers that I thought might be interesting. I used to think that
maybe there really was a pony under all the horse***.
But when I discovered that one of her vaunted e-mail
discussions about the KRS included her relaying to that group a
twisted, biased, very possibly libelous version of not only the
arguments on s.a., but also the characters of the posters on
s.a., I decided that I was tired of being one of Inger's
punching bags.
You will recall (or you'll look up) the occasion when Michael
Ruddy stormed into s.a., loaded for bear and certain that
Johansson's characterizations of me and others was dead
accurate. You do remember that, do you not? Well, one of the
things that happened in that exchange was that Ruddy emailed me
about something, and by accident (I think) left in a couple of
Johansson's email response to him. I don't recall for sure, but
he may have done the same on the ng. Johansson's words were
pure backstabbing, untrue, and clearly designed to make her look
good and her 'nay-sayers' look bad. It was scurroulous. There
was no hint of the scholar, or of the balanced person, in what
she wrote.
You may also recall that after a short sojourn here at my
suggestion, Ruddy issued an apology, said he was gravely
mis-informed by Johansson, and wished us well. He did hold a
bit of a grudge against a couple of folks here, but that was
based more on some personal communication (or lack thereof) than
on s.a. posts.
I haven't had the time I once had to participate here as I
would like. I especially haven't been able to do as much
research as I'd like. That may partly account for the change
you say you see in me. I regret it. Given something
interesting to research, and discussants who are sane, I would
do much more.
But the main change is that I've gotten less patient with
posters who piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. To the
extent that you divert discussions away from Johansson's lack of
scholarship and honor, while nit-picking that of others, I've
begun to feel something warm, wet and smelly on my pant legs
from reading your posts, too.
