First thanks for your reply :-)

I don't know for sure if this is so important to us.
I believe (this is the official doctrine of the UM) that God revealed
himself to people all over the world, not only to the Jews.

If the Bible _as_ a _written_ book is older or younger then other
written sources does not make so much a difference to me.
I am more concerned about how _much_ truth is found it.
What I am saying is that the Jews had a oral tradition that was passed
on from generation to generation.

I am certainly no expert on the Jewish believes in the OT, but if remember
correctly in the OT is nothing about life after death, yet in the gospels
we find that St.Paul (Acts 23:5-7) he stirred up a division among his
accusers because he cleverly defended himself by saying " I am standing
here accused because of my believe in the resurrection of the death" an idea
which was not accepted by _all_ Jew's at that time. This idea the Jews
brought with them when they returned from their captivity in Babylon.

My point: the Jews were influenced by religions of the people surrounding
them, and for long time many prophets spoke out against it.
