It's got a matching cross-joint irregularity. There is a large
near-vertica crack (OK, I'll call it a joint to keep you happy) about
two thirds of the way across from the left. Just to the left of this
is a much less clearly defined crack which passes through the two
visible layers of stone. This runs roughly parallel with the 'joint'
to which I have just referred. At first I suspected it was a vine but
it can be clearly seen to have been heavily eroded into a 'V' shape at
the top. It's a crack and it passes right through the horizontal
'joint'. This is not the work of stone masons. Its a natural
formation.
