First of all, you can't realistically use a book published in 1982 to
argue that the 1999 NASA data is obsolete, so I'm going to go back to
using their web site.

Second, you're asking the wrong question. Rather, you're asking a good
question, but too quickly. Before you can get any idea of when and where
to look in the historical records, you need to find out where and when
the impacts occured. IOW, where are the craters? Once you know that,
you'll have at least a chance of separating actual records of impact
events from other accounts that might appear similar. Without it, you're
never going to make any progress. There are just too many stories that
*might* have something to do with an impact, and no way of figuring out
which of them actually do.

Locating the impacts is also important for another reason: If the number
of impact sites turned up by a thorough search is pretty close to what
Clube and Napier predict, then that will be a support for their theory.
If it is significantly lower or higher, it will be a good indication
that the theory needs to be either revised or discarded.
