And 'tower' can mean something like the Newport Tower, or a beacon. My
guess is that this is the beacon discussed by Farley Mowat here:

This is not far from Greenland and who knows, it might be Norse. I
wouldn't be surprised. Norse in Alaska, however, would surprise me.
