Without the henna, wouldn't the natural color of Rameses II's hair at
the time of his death have been _white_?
Isn't Ginger red all over? From the iron content of the soil he was
buried in?
Bleaching hair is, nowadays, done with hydrogen peroxide, H2O2
(started about a hundred years ago). It's that extra oxygen that does
it. Before, I don't know -- but wool has been bleached by burning
sulfur near it for millennia. How much do we know about the chemistry
of the interior of coffins over the years?
Over time (only a few years, really), white hair develops a yellow
tint. Or, it can be yellowish when it sprouts. When I first saw a
color photo of Yuya and Thuya, that's what I figured.
