No, a person can be a fanatic for "democracy" or for "the state" or for
"their race" or whatever. Fanatacism can take many non-religious forms.
Obviously you don't know how soldiers fought during the US Civil War. Well,
they'd stand out in the open, guns ready. Right out in the open. The other
side would charge in head first in the open - and they'd shoot each other to
pieces. When they got close enough, they'd resort to using bayonettes and
other hand to hand weapons. That was was fought over the issue of slave
labor versus free wage labor. Both sides were fanatic. Hell, they shot the
freaking president after it was over, too.

Here is a clue: when people no longer have anything to lose, or anything
much to lose - they don't give a *** if they die fighting, so long as they
slaughter those that screwed them over.
