I'd say "_could_ be proven to be inconsistent," myself. After all, it
could be such an incredibly _good_ forgery, that it is effectively
impossible to find any inconsistencies...

....it's not, of course - in fact, it's only a fair to middling forgery -
but it is at least theoretically _possible_ to have that good a forgery.

OTOH, if we're going to work with very, very low levels of "possible"
here (Hi, Eric!), then it's _possible_* that the reason the VM has so
many unique features compared to other medieval maps/documents is that
_all_ of those other maps/documents are the forgeries and the VM is the
only _real_ medieval map we have...

* Most likely at the same sense of possible that it's possible my atoms
will spontaneously rearrange myself into a GE toaster over. IOW, there's
nothing actually _impossible_ about it - but if you're waiting, I
wouldn't count on any toast for a few trillion years...
