That's not Eric's style, when confronted he might admit the VM
map was forged at some time in the past. His point or his
desire is throw alot of sand in the face of good science. Here
it is euphamistically called 'squink'.
More or less he is providing a sliver of hope for the mdm,
who, as you gather, doesn't have a clue what she is talking
about. More precisely stated at a distance he is offering up
a 0 to 0.0001 % probability that she may be right, breathing
room for kooks. This is sort of the modality of many of the
diffusionist here, Eric being the lessor amoung them, that
they feel the great need to defeat science or scientific
methods as a grand explanation of why 'thier stuff' is not
herald in great ivory towers. Obviously the 'rejection'
criteria for theories is to high of a standard, p = 0.05 is
too high we have to entertaine all theories that are even p=
0.0001 and if that does not suffice, lower the p even further.
There was a program on PBS the other night talking about
quantum mechanics and they basically said if you walked into
a wall frequent enough and for eternity, eventually you would
pass through the wall. Everything is possible, of course, that
particular ink could have come from a clay with just the right
particle size, used up during the writings, this is the only
document that survived, they had a secret process for
purfiying the right sized particles, they destroyed all
written record, and the monks burned the monastery, leaving
no trace . . . .(As i call it the If .. and, If ... and, If
.... and, ......... and If ... then argument)
What these hyperdiffusionist want to do is to make it seem
that things that are incredibly improbable are on the same
footing or level as things that are possible and probable.
This is what drives his 'exceptions' to what you say.
