The press release for a new publication, "Darwin Archaeology: Aboriginal,
Asian and European Heritage of Australia's Top End".
http://www.cdu.edu.au/cdupress/featbook.html caught my eye:
"Subjects covered include:
....
The Single Men's Quarters at Fannie Bay Gaol: an archaeology of hard
drinking and mateship;"
Anyone familiar with alcohol abuse in the Australian Northern Territory
would think it would be worth the $35 just for that topic alone.
The authors' aim was to view the prehistoric and historic past as a
continuum, so encompasses European and Asian contact. There are many works
addressing the archaeology of the nearby Arnhem Land region, but this is a
claimed first for Darwin.
(I have not found the press-release on the net; a copy could possibly be
sourced from the CDU)
