There were survivors, none were executed in Scotland or England and
IIRC some other places. These survivors joined the Hospital or
monastic orders. Judging from the evidence knight-brothers were
accepted at about 20, so it is just possible a 70 year old ex-templar
was available. Of course this begs the question of why any sane 70
year old would go to sea on an open boat and then trek into a
wilderness. Of course the KRS is missing something that is on every
known genuine rune stone.

I can't say I am greatly interested in the subject and I am not
impressed with the way the obsession with Scandinavians has driven out
genuine archeological subjects.
