The problem with this group is that few people take the time to apply
peer pressure to those who generate off-topic threads. The bigger
problem in responding to the mdm is not refuting her, but
confronting her pollutive crossposting. People who create threads
that are off-topic constantly are killfiled. To date I have never
heard anyone in this group mention its charter, or use it charter to
motivate another to stop posting.
We(I with the help of a few others) managed to clean up s.a.p. a
great deal by getting members of a few other groups to realize that
unabashed responses to kooks was as pollutive as the kooks post.
Since we got the help of t.o. moderator s.a.p. has been as clean as a
whistle since (except one episode where a regular erred in his
critique of t.o.).
Aside from killfiles, the absolutely most affective way to get rid
of nonsense posters is get everyone to agree that on replies,
newsgroups will be shaved to one, for example, ego aside, follow up
to only one group, and a group you don't read. If you guys would do
this you would divert the traffic elsewhere and force the mdm to read
and respond in the other group. Kooks hate having followup groups
trimmed, that is the modality of propogation.
