Everyone, take very careful note of what Inger is saying, and keep
this in mind with what I said about cryptoracism and ethnocentrism.
We were looking for a motivation and we seem to have found it.

In what way would it affect YOU if you had to admit that
the Swedes and the Norwegians not only were active during
the Migration Age up to end of Viking Age in Europe but
also had more impact on the North American History then
what the later arriving Brits, French and Spainards
officially given them credit for?

#1. Why do the british, french and spanish have any official role in
giving credit, in what unreal universe would we need to rely on any
of these to determine in america what happened in america? Americans
are doing american studies, we can, of ourselves make the appropriate
determinations, we do not need officially a stamp from any country,
and especially not from Sweden.
#2. What is to be gained or lost by giving credit to sweden for what
Norway, Greenland, England, Gotland, Scotland other nations did 700
years ago. History is not about giving credit, its about assigning
facts. Why is it that a person from Sweden would stand here and ask
why it would affect to give credit to sweden from something that did
not happen?
Motivation for one person to be in this newsgroup is to get other
people to pay homage to her country.
Of the people who populated the new world, according to impact.
#1 impact on New World. Japan and Siberia, settled people from
Most people in the new world are still from this region. The
estimated population size by the time the first europeans arrived is
in the 50 to 100 million range. I am assuming that Japans maritime
'mesolithic' society are responsible for the first wave, via an
oceanic route. Have provided a constant and willing supply of cheap
labor during times of shortages and allowed America to grow at record
paces. Of the 1000s of years of human occupation 97% of it was
dominated by peoples from this region of the world. Native American
peoples represent the fastest growing population in the new world.
Instead of asking about what Swedens impact on North American
discovery, let us ask what native american culture has impacted the
rest of the world.
Tomatoes, Potatoes (Dozens of varieties) Maize-Corn, Red Pepper
(chile peppers dozens of popular varieties), Chocolate, Avacodos, Red
Beans, Black beans, Lima beans, Turkey, Llama wool, Tamales,
Tortillas, Tobacco, Root stock for french wine industry, Wild Rice,
Squash, Cucumbers, Pumpkins, Sled Dogs, Several dozen varieties for
fruits, several varieties of leafy vegetables. Of the 16 or so
different types of food found at the 5,000 year old chilean site 15
were domesticated by the time the spanish came.
. . Thinking, how many of these new world miracles were handed to
the world by Sweden?
Or for that matter, how many plants or animals have been domesticated
in Sweden that are of importance to the rest of the world?
It is very true that native american culture was not at the forfront
of the worlds technology here are some advances that native american
culture did not give the world.
Sugar, Flour, Booze, Beer, Measles, Mumps, Venereal Diseases, World
Wars, Black Plaque, Type II diabetes, Alcoholism, Morbid Obesity,
Monstrously controlling religions, Religious Hypocrisy, A tripartite
Racial scheme, Victorian value system, Color based Racial Supremecy,
Naziism, Colonial Exploitation, Antisemitism, Transcontinental slave
trade, Failed colonies on Greenland.
The better question is what makes a person blind to the obvious,
and see what is not there. While some people languish about the
contribution of their ancestors, consider that the far off land has
already risen to great power of its own, and what matter of
contribution from so many peoples from all over the world. It is
certainly worth considering that for America the most important
impact was diversity. Different minds, different cultures, different
perspectives. There was not one native america, there were 100s,
there were not on place in europe, but 100s of places which sent
immigrants. There was not one reason for migrating, but 100s, there
was not one skill but a great many and all variety of any given
trade, there was not one desire but many. Yeah, some people here
settled from Sweden, but given that nature of the question, one can
probably devise a reason why some left Sweden, a thought that would
be well above the head of the person who created the question.
And yet as america has elevated itself from a few colonies to the
most powerful nation in a few hundreds years, and the cause seems to
be lost on some people, so it is also true that they cannot see that
americans had the potential for great frauds also with all
those skills.
The irony of devine races is this, during WWII as the Japanese were
roaming around the oceans of the world, the US took out 58% of its
naval vessels with a single technological assemblage making the
conclusion to the war enivitable. And the language that was used to
coordinate these attacks was a native tongue, ironically it was not
to different from languages of the peoples of siberia, including the
Ainu. Had the Japanese taken the time to study siberian culture and
language they might have been able to crack the american code. Every
great empire falls as a result of fatness and blind pride, they
ussually fall to the indigeonous people under their foot whom they
consider subhuman. That is the nature of the human animal, to
understad the nature of the animal is devine, everything else is
desire.
"

The credit goes to the spirit of brave men and women, singlular and
plural from all ends of the earth, who put the sweat of their brow
and their blood into the effort of their discovery. And the credit
goes to those who were lost and found their way in a new land, did
not give up, but perservered to make a new people, and survived
adapting their culture to the required extreme. The credit goes to
those who bridged the divide between peoples who exchanged
technologies, and hybridized new technologies. Credit goes to those
who came, found weeds and turned them into crops, and those that
found crops and turned them into industry. Credit goes to their
spirits every single last one of them, where they came from hardly
matters. A person in a far off land cannot lay claim to the sweat of
someone elses brow, rhetoric will also not add to the claimants
spirit or take away from that already come to past. An ancient sled
dog on a sled team strolling across the canadian ice deserves more
credit for the discovery of american than 'your' sweden.
