Can you explain why the OP say it was sharpened on one edge?
If it's not used for scraping, a sharpened edge is not necessary.

Every good spade is more or less sharpend and I like mine real sharp, esp. when cutting through the turf is needed. And if there are not too much stones in the ground, I like my Dutch hoe (scuffle/schoffel) almost as a razor.
