PHARAOH'S GOLD: TREASURES, GODS & POWER
For millennia, Egypt has been synonymous with magnificent temples and
dazzling treasure. This year The Society for the Study of Egyptian
Antiquities and The Royal Ontario Museum combine to bring you three
days of papers on ancient Egypt and its great civilization:
DAY 1 = Friday, October 21st, 2005 :30 am - 4:30 pm
Visiting international scholars and graduate students in Egyptology
present their latest research. Scheduled speakers include Prof. J.
Dijkstra of the University of Ottawa and Prof. John Gee of Brigham
Young University.
Free - all welcome.
Held in The Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen's Park Cres., Toronto, ON.
DAY 2 = Session 1 of PHARAOH'S GOLD: TREASURES, GODS & POWER
Sat October 22 9:30 to 4:30 PM, The Baehn Building on the campus of the
University of Toronto
Featured speakers include Dr. Robert Bianchi (formerly of The
Brooklyn Museum of Fine Art), Prof. Peter Brand of the University of
Memphis, Prof. Sally Katary of Laurentian University, Dr. Larry Berman
of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and
archaeologist Dr. Suzanne Onstine, who excavates in the Valley of the
Kings.

DAY 3 = Session 2 of the Symposium
Sun October 23 9:30 to 4:30 PM
This day will be dedicated to the life and work of the late ROM curator
and famed scholar of ancient Nubia, Dr. Nicholas B. Millet. Keynote
speaker will be Dr. Rosa Frey, an archaeologist who works at the
mysterious and seldom-visited pyramid of Lahun. Curators,
archaeologists and scholars who worked with Dr. Millet will present a
series of talks on some of his favorite topics: mummies, Meroe, and
daily life in Ancient Egypt. Also speaking will be Joyce Haynes of the
Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Prof. K. Grzymski of the Royal Ontario
Museum and several others.
