Quite frankly I would be surprised if they had NOT visited the
Americas at some earlier time. As with the Norse sagas, there are
numerous such in the Chinese culture as well - some stories go back to
BC times. How accurate they are is another thing - discarded out of
hand they shouldn't be. Can any of them be verified to have occurred
is also questionable.

What makes this much harder is the US establishment's opposition to
any such event having occurred. Therefor they do not encourage any
such research - and it is left to privateers with insufficient funds,
and very limited access to source materials.
