The movie isn't out yet, but IMDb is so helpful! The plot summary says:
"A Viking boy is left behind after his clan battles a Native American tribe.
Raised within the tribe, he ultimately becomes their savoir in a fight
against the Norsemen."
The director is a German, Marcus Nispel, previously known for a remake of
"Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (2003) and a TV-movie version of "Frankenstein",
as well as various music videos.
The script is by Laeta Kalogridis and Todd Komarnicki. Ms. Kalogridis, as
well as scripting "Birds of Prey" (a futuristic Batman series) and "Battle
Angel" ("In the 26th century, a female cyborg is rescued from the scrapheap
by a scientist...") has, according to the Trivia section, "provided a script
polish for Ehren Kruger's draft of "Scream 3" and "submitted a potential
script to Warner Bros. centered on the DC Comics heroine Wonder Woman".
In other words -- no, Inger, there is no reason to suppose that the
"1000-year-old Norse artifacts" are anything other than comic book science
fiction.
