You have no sense of time and geological velocities. A million years
ago the plates were pretty much where they are now. Besides, England
moves with Ireland and the rest of central Europe, those distances
have remained unchanged for 250 my.

H.erectus (Neander-ancestor) was in England 700ky to 500k, eg.
Boxgrove; there is a distinct hiatus 180-50k, and - one full
glaciation and the Eemian interglacial later, with lots of mean sea
level changes, and after after Neander vanished ca.40ky ago - there is
a hiatus for Cro 25-17k bp.

The latter is clearly caused by inhospitable conditions as this is the
maximum glaciation period of the Weichsel/Wisconsin.
