I take it that neither of you read the work that Roskilde Museum edited the
other year?
Kirpichnikov Anatoly och Nazarenko Vladimir, For tidens Staraja Ladoga, i
Vikingarnes Rusland - Staraja Ladoga og Novgorod, Roskilde 1993
is one of the most excellent article dealing with what's found in Staraja
Ladoga.
And btw Staraja Ladoga isn't in Scandinavia. It's in Russia.
Apart from which the smith's tools, a full set, were dated to 10th or 11th
century if I remember it correctly.
You can also read
Sedov VV, Srednevekovaja Ladoga, Leningrad Nauka 1985
or at least you can have the text under the photos translated. That will
help.
