Population Ancient Israel

In another religious group, we have a collection of people suggesting
that there were 21 million people living in Israel in the year 1000BCE.
 Yes yes, of course it's ridiculous, however I'd like as much quotable
(hopefully online) evidence that this is completely ridiculous.

I currently only have an estimate of 300,000 people during the davidic
rule.  That's based on the size of Jerusalem and other cities.

Any other quoteable proof?  Thanks...MCW
