This bounds the population at 300,000 based on the size of the major
cities.
I'm just looking for some more quotes as to the population size of
ancient Jerusalem and Israel to drive point home with my religious
critics who believe there could have been 21 million there at that
time!
You have a problem here - there was no "Israel" in 1000 BCE. Your
source only refers to a "Israelite Religion" as well. The "Israelites"
were alleged to be a tribe of people, nothing more. For a while there
was a province of "Israel" in the north. It was ruled by Reheboam, son
of Solomon after his death (around 928 BCE). They were in constant
conflict and intertribal rivalry within "Israel" and it was conquered
by Assyrians in about 722 BCE and it ceased to exist.
The nation to the south was Judea.
