Interesting you should mention that. New Scientist last week reported that
new photographic techniques have revealed an inscription on the corroded
metal. Unfortunately the item was only brief, so I don't know what the
inscription says. The report did say that scientists were hoping that it
would be instructions in how to use it, but I'm not too hopeful. More likely
to be an invocation to the gods to give a favourable voyage or something.
