Alan,
when was the last time you read and noted what's the real content in
Hauksbokis? the content, which I am about to send tomorrow some
essential facts around
There is no way on this earth that Vinland of Karlsefni could have
been placed north of NY.
" After a winter in the Straumfjörðr area several
members of the group, led by Karlsefni, sail
further south along the coast 'for a long time' to
a place which they named 'Hóp' (a common
name for a tidal lake). Páll Bergþórsson
believes that this might have been the present
New York area (1997:83 and passim), and this
may well be the case, though other New
England locations may fit the description just
as well, making a definitive identification
impossible."

I quess you don't know that New England is
north of New York
Most of New England except a tiny bit of New Hampshire and part of Maine
is actually east of New York.
--Not one single chance if you read what the
text say and look at the currents in the waters not to mention that
the true figures given by the documents for where Vinland was located
can't give any other readings than that the sun was up 0700 to 1700
on the shortest day.
No
"/Sól hafði þar eyktarstað og dagmálsstað um/
/skammdegi/.
The sun passed the points of "eykt" and "day
mark" in the period of the shortest days.(19)
19) Magnusson and Pálsson, Vinland Sagas,
56, have the following for the last sentence:
"On the shortest day of the year the sun was
already up by 9 a.m., and did not set until after
3 p.m." Although the meaning is strictly
speaking not the same it may be so in
practice because of the uncertainty in
observation and interpretation."

ALL other things are nonsence assumed by people
who aren't familiar with the farmers day and the monestries days
before 1400.
