Re: Varnhem excavation

=) It was just that I felt his comment was a little too negative. I am
sorry. I can be very sensitive.

Peter is a nice guy, and possibly he was just in a hurry, but still
wanted to say something. With more time, maybe he would have given some
constructive criticism or some suggestions.

In any case, of course I understand that it might be "meaningless", and
that most people don't speak Swedish. I try to translate text that I
find important, and I am also willing to translate more, if anyone
asks. That's why I hint at available further information.

To Inger: I'd rather that you wrote in English, because not only those
knowing Swedish might be interested in the age of the different
buildings. I could have given you a lengthier answer.

Hm, age is not the only interesting thing about this site. For example,
they tested the age of a reinterred dead human being (boy, do I lack
the right vocabulary) It was dated to 960-1040 AD. The archaeologists
believe that the reinterment was caused by the construction of the
stone church. Even so , there are examples of crushed skeletons. One
male child was cut in half by a stone wall, and the archaeologists are
doing high five, saying this is good; "let us date that skeleton".

It is also somewhat interesting to see what the travellers ate, and
what coins and chess pieces they dropped :)

They have found a certain amount of painted glass from the windows, and
I wonder if they kept the original windows, or if they put up new
plain glass.

Finally, Varnhem is not the only interesting site in Sweden. I saw some
nice articles about Birka, how it seems as if the place was taken by
storm. The archaeologists are pretty certain that the attackers came
from across the sea, from Novgorod or something like that.
