I realy said what I meant. I only forgot to compliment
you with your nice churches.
The purpose of your post was not very clear to me,
and since your references were in Swedish, there was
little to comment on with respect to content.
I will grant you that =)
The thing is that, not being an archaeologist, I really don't know what
is interesting to them. I can only speak for myself, and this
rebuilding into guest house was something that caught my eye. Hihi, I
will try to lable my articles in the future, writing: "here's a little
something I find most interesting. I want to share it with you." I
think that was the purpose, and I think most purposes are of a similar
kind.
I don't know what they expected to find, perhaps ze Gothic holy grail?
On another tack, maybe they are just excavating what sponsors are
willing to pay for :-)
In any case, of course I understand that it might be "meaningless",
and that most people don't speak Swedish.
Not meaningless _and_, but meaningless _because_
most people don't understand Swedish.
I have seen people here complaining about "code"
when confronted with information in a non-English
language. You may blame them for their laziness,
or their country for its education system, but the
facts are that most people here realy only understand
English and that the language in this forum is English.
There is a lot of important information available in
other languages, but that information remains hidden
for those who are unable to read it, unless they are
given a helping hand by people who can.
I try to translate text that I find important,
But in this case you didn't.
That's true. I will have it in mind next time, and prepare better and
translate more. Because, naturally I feel the same, and I don't want to
be exclusive, and I really want people to ask, and I'll be happy to
help. Not that I'd be any good at it, because I am a historian and not
an archaeologist.
All in all, I think what I wrote cannot have been such a terrible
thing, at least in comparison to some other funny stuff. Hm, I've been
reading news for some 16 years now, and some people nowadays are even
worse than the kooks back then, because those kooks at least found the
right newsgroup =D
Two other things:
I've linked to pages that are perhaps not politically correct, with
nice photos but words that an archaeologist or a historian could class
as highly doubtful. Since you can understand some Swedish, maybe you
are a bit worried? Let me assure you that I am not right wing. I just
feel that there is a place for everybody, and nothing is black or white
here in life. To add something further to this, I would like to express
my concern for Inger and her thoughts about Gothic grandeur, but I
haven't spoken to her in person, and it is so easy to judge. And if
Inger reads and she's going to Götene in August, I'd like to meet you
and ask some questions, and perhaps even share that ice cream with you.
Yes, and code... I really don't see that as a problem. I mean, once
upon a time people were complaining about .sigs longer than 4 lines. I
would like to say that this is the Swedish style, and any information
is better than no information. I don't like elitism. Btw, I know a
bloke, Tomas Kroksmark, who was worried about our low grades and went
to China, to study their school. After investigation and talks with the
minister of education in China, he came to the conclusion that our
school system was equally good. They know a lot, but Swedes know how to
use knowledge. I am sorry if it is a break of code. I don't understand
all of them rules, and I do not try to be exclusive :-) quite the
opposite actually.
Well, I am much too loquacious. It is time to finish and enjoy some
summer.
Marcus
For information to those who it might be interesting to learn about things
that they have nothing to do with at all, I like to inform you all that I
sent Marcus files re. the Goths. Parts from three levels of work, analyse to
text and also some other stuff.
