the real question comes from 'in what context'. even if you say 'in general
archaeology' it will still fall to the discussion of what is 'notable' or
why someones contributions in one area of archaeology outweigh someone elses
contribution in another.
IMHO, the greatest contributor to the field of archaeology/anthropology is
Julian Steward, the most notable archaeologist is Louis Binford. many will
disagree with both of those, but, that is just my opinion.
