So modest advice, do NOT run with any science writer report. The usual problems with science writer syndrome apply mainly they are much more confident in the papers than the authors. At least read the abstract if you can. Next be patient and look for it being a confirmation of a previous study or wait for a confirmation of it. There are way to many ways to get things partly right without knowing what percentage of right that part is particularly in genetic studies.
For example in genetic studies there is a significant problem in any limited study which most of them are because of the cost. The study looks for a particular marker. What is wrong with that? It does not measure ALL markers.
A researcher wants to connect people A with people B? He finds a marker in A and finds it in B. Another person can connect C to B by finding a different marker. Both people were ancestors.
There is now an X prize for speeding put the kind of human gene analysis which will make complete mapping affordable so we can be less dependent upon limited studies.
And if this follows the usual development of research the results will be even more interesting than we can imagine.
