There is no fusion of the stone between two blocks, thus the joint
constitutes an evident plane of weakness.

Yet this shrinkage is so small that while the blocks crack and split, you
still can't get a ticket between them.

The blocks don't crack, and the shrinkage is just large enough to mark
the limit between two blocks.

Odd that these shrinkage forces
didn't result in some of the blocks cracking apart in jagged lines.
