She [Carlson] also chooses to see similarities where none exist,
between buildings of widely differing cultural contexts, none of
which,
when looked at in the cold light of day, have more than a
superficial similarity to the Newport Tower. Her approach is like
saying, "the Newport Tower has arches, the Rome Coliseum has
arches, was the Newport Tower built by the Romans?" or, "the
Newport Tower is a rotunda, the centre of the Capitol is a rotunda,
therefore the Capitol was built by the same person."

But why do they always ignore Theodorik's mausoleum in Ravenna? :-)

You mean this one?

http://images.google.co.nz/images?hl=en&q=Theodoric+mausoleum+ravenna&btnG=Search+Images

If that is the one you find with
theodorik+mausoleum+ravenna,
yes.

Then I am surprised you have to ask why 'they' ignore it. Theodorik's
mausoleum has only a passing similarity to the Newport Tower.
