Have they found the tomb of Amenhotep I?
Maybe there's more gold there.
Sometimes they can trace gold by
spectrographic analysis to determine traces
of other metals and this can give an
indication where it was mined.

I have been watching BBC documentaries this
weekend on Egypt. I now
know that King Tut's tomb was the only
"modern discovery" where a
pharaoh's treasure was in tact. What
happened to all of the other
treasure in the other tombs?
Yes, the superficial answer -- echoed over
and over in the movies I
have been watching -- is "Grave Robbers".
But can someone give me
more details?
Are the "grave robbers" the ruling pharaoh
that come right after the
departed one, that ransack their
predecessor's grave? If so, how long
do they wait? Do they do it in secret?
Maybe the robbers were other conquering
people's that stole territory
and treasure from the pharaohs?
Did any of the gold ever remain in a tomb
long enough to have it
forgotten about, only to be discovered by
run-of-the-mill bandits
centuries later?
Is it likely there are still treasure-laden
tombs in tact in Egypt?
Was gold melted down and used for coins?
Any insight someone more learned than
myself can give is appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt G.
