Popular opinion would have it that horse riding doesn't really come into
things in western and northern Europe until the arrival of the "Celts"
(whoever they were!). However there is plenty of evidence of horse
domestication prior to that date and I wouldn't be at all surprised if one
or two horses hadn't been ridden as early as the Bronze Age or Late
Neolithic. Any earlier than that and you are on uncertain ground.
To my knowledge there is no difinitive evidence of horse riding much before
the later Bronze Age but that's not to say it didn't happen. After all, what
sort of evidence would survive? For it to show in the human anatomy I would
guess the person concerned would have to spend an awful lot of time on a
horse. For it to show from artefacts they would have to be made from
non-perishable substances OR the artefact (such as a rope hawser for
example) would need to have come to rest in an anaerobic context.
My advice (for what it's worth) would be to go with the dogs but steer clear
of the horses.
On the point of clothing I note that you mentioned tailored clothes. Don't
assume that Neanderthals didn't have these too. I suspect they were a very
skilled folk with a lot of tricks up their sleeves, (they MUST have been to
have survived as long as they did). It might also be worth investigating how
clothes might have been manufactured by your Anatomically Modern Humans. I
seem to recall there being evidence for weaving in Russia which goes much
further back than anyone had expected (around 20,000 years if memory serves
me correctly.... but don't quote me on that!).
For more on the whole question of domestication, have a look at David R.
Harris (Ed), 1996 The Origins and Spread of Agriculture and Pastoralism in
Eurasia, London:UCL
It might help.
