Assassinated Oetzi / new evidence for cause of death
Seems that this story has no end. In the Frankfurter Allgemeine
Zeitung of 1 Sep 07 evidence is reported that Oetzi did not die of the
breaking of his neck artery, but from a blow on his head.
Interestingly, one of the lead authors of the new data is the same who
only a few months ago presented the evidence for the hurt artery.
They now think that Oetzi received a heavy frontal blow on the head or
in the face/the forehead, or else he was seriously hurt when he fell
with his face on the rocks. He did not die instantly since the wound
caused by the arrow (and slightly breaking the artery) continued to
bleed, causing a big blood clot which must have some time to develop.
Someone must have removed the arrow shaft. It is considered possible
that this Mr.Someone turned the unconscious Oetzi on his belly to
remove the arrow, leaving the arrow head in the body; this is how the
body is thought to have ended up on Oetzi's left arm which had a very
strange position - stretched out to the right, and beneath the thorax,
a position no live and conscious person would tolerate for long. This
theory at least appears to be more credible than to assume that he
slept on his arm, or was turned over by the moving glacier.
I have to admit that Day Brown's remark was well-placed: if the arrow
was removed from the near-dead body, most probably by the man who shot
it, why didn't he take the copper axe? The fact remains that he did
not, or else they would not have found it with the mummy.
The new evidence is going to be published in the journal 'Germania'
later this year.
