So archeologists get to decide how the public defines words now, too?

Yes, of course they do, especially when the subject is Science.

Try walking into a courtroom and insisting that the judge and lawyers
accept the layman's definition of contempt rather than the law
profession's definition.

But even for a layman, your definitions of science and technology are
non-standard.

Well, as Doug said, NLP is marketed as science. So is hypnosis. And
most people associate them with science.
Furthermore, no one has yet adequately explained to me how trial and
error flint knapping can be technology but the manipulation and use of
verbal cues, "chi" energy, and visualization is not.

By the way, "chi" energy is a material thing, just like a stone, and
can be viewed using Kirlian photography.

No, 'chi' is probably a fantasy with no proof for it.

Unless you watch a Kahuna or Yogi knock a man twice his size down by
almost gently extending his arm against the person's chest.

Unless you have seen the tests which prove that rabbits fed
cholesterol poison by a loving hand don't increase cholosterol levels,
while rabbits fed the same poison by uncaring or mean spirited hands
do increase cholesterol levels.

The rabbits were divided into groups and fed a diet designed to raise
their cholesterol to high levels. All of the rabbits developed high
cholesterol except one group. Puzzled, the scientists began looking for an
explanation, since all of the rabbits were fed the same foods. The only
difference they could find was that the individual responsible for feeding
this group did so in a very loving way. He cuddled them and talked to them
each time he fed them. Key lesson: there is a good chance that the
emotions we feel when we eat play a significant role in determining how we
metabolize food.

Don't explain it with endorphins because endorphins don't wrk so fast
in such an extreme way.

Unless you have watched the experiment in which school children are
able to change the direction of a spinning propeller that is in a
vacuum.

citation? I can't find that.

I don't have one. I learned it the same place I learned about the
rabbits, a Deepak Chopra lecture at the Ayur Veda center my mother
works at. He had pictures of the tests on the big screen. Perhaps I'm
gullible but it seemed very reasonable to me, especially considering
that the thing was moving so incredibly slow and the reverse action
was so slow and almost subtle.

I have seen some experiments by Russian scientists testing so-called
psychics on the Discovery Channel that seemed pretty convincing.

We also learned that old folks who moved into a town made up to look
like it was the 1950s reversed their physiological age by 15 years
within a couple of months of living there.

What I am raving against, Doug, is modern man's dispicable smugness
and his assertion that he has discovered everything there is to know
under heaven.

The East was laughing at us when we believed the world was flat,

Um, evidence for that - which would have been maybe a bit less than 3000
years ago, maybe 2500 years ago, right?

I was just making up a quick example.
I guess I should have said they laughing at us when we thought the sun
revolved around the earth, or when we thought Ayur Veda was BS and
voodoo, just 50 years ago.
Now our hospitals are accepting it. It saved my uncles life, and my
mother uses it on children to fight cancer. It has a high rate of
success.

But if you don't believe any of these things are real then you can go
to a Reiki class and feel the intense heat coming out of the person's
palms who touches you.

I'm not saying they are all real, but some of them must be. The roots
behind most of these skills are very ancient.

I just think that some things that are true and useful work despite
the fact that science can't tell us why yet, and I wonder how the
ancients discovered them. I think it's possible that they discovered
them in the 180,000-500,000 years before the Neolithic Revolution when
the workday was only 4 hours, and they had time to experiment with
each other. When their faith had not yet been stolen away by science.

I saw a 113 year old woman in the Andes on the back of a mule with a
budle of sticks on her back smoking an unfiltered cigarette. The
difference between her culture and ours is that they believe that when
you get old you grow more powerful whereas in ours we believe you get
a tube in your mouth and move to Florida. We know that cigarettes
kill, so every time we light one we increase its power ten-fold by
telling our subconscious "These damn things are going to kill me."

Say a blessing over your smoke, and treat it like that nice guy
treated the rabbit, and it might not even hurt you at all.

and

many cultures are still laughing at us for our extreme ignorance
coupled with delusions of grandeur.

You really should
know that Kirlian photgraphy is simply an interesting corona discharge
phenomenon.

I'll check it out and see if I buy their explanation.
