Thanks for the replies.

The allotment is on land which used to belong to a country estate,
although the surrounding area is London suburbs. I would say this land
was farmed and then turned over to allotments, and would never have
been filled. There's loads of this type of flint round here, so it's
probably local.

I was digging a planting trench so didn't stop at the time to photo
the exact spot. The interesting thing is that I was double digging
which means you go right down to the sub-soil which is usually
relatively undisturbed.

Is an ecofact a naturally occuring oddity?
