October 15 to November 15 we'll conduct an archaeological

studies of the past three years: possible building foundations and
a rocky area near the Tower. The Tower itself, though completely
visible and beautiful, is mute; we can only hope that its neighbors
underground will be more talkative and tell us their tales from the
past, and the tale of the Tower."

Thanks.
You won't be surprised that I point out that they aren't qualified to
comment on Hu McCulloch's comments on the Radiocarbon dating and Hu
McCulloch isn't qualified either. I'd have been much happier if they'd
entered a caveat about his qualifications.

I also noticed that they state that the Chesterton Windmill was
originally built as an observatory and only later converted to a
windmill. However their references give no evidence for this.

Ah, I missed that, thanks. As you know, I've seen copies of the invoices
that prove it was built as a windmill (as well as having talked to the
archaeologist who found them) I plan to contact them about this.

sorry but,... can one of you give me a summary of the radiocarbon isues?

As far as I know, there is no single summary. You can read about one
view of the argument at
http://www.econ.ohio-state.edu/jhm/arch/vinland/newport.htm

You will find some of my comments as part of a running discussion in
sci.archaeology at http://tinyurl.com/2btpp5 and
http://tinyurl.com/37o8my

I will see if I can dig out more. In the event that you feel the urge
to read it, I can send you a copy of the english version of the H&J
paper.

I don't know what's happened here but the two TinyURLs come up with
something quite different from what I intended.

With apologies to those whos news readers wrap long URLs, the search I
used can be found at

The two particular articles are, I think,
