How are large hewn stones dated ? (2.0)

This thread really went off a tangent.
I'm the one who started the previous one. Basically I am interested in
technical dating methods. I know little about archaeology, but more
about physics and so on.
If such a large hewn stone would have been split at one time using
fire and water spalling, would that make it a candidate for
thermoluminiscence dating in some way ? Would the fire-heated side be
reset wrt. the core so some kind of differential measurement would be
possible ? Would it be possible to measure the diffusion rate of some
atmospheric gas into the rock over thousands of years to draw some
conclusions ?
