Pray for Reign: The Eschatological Elijah in James 5:17-18

James M. Darlack states that Dr. Barbara Thiering
"gives the most detailed treatment" for the view that
the symbolic value of the figure "three and a half years"
shows an intentional association of Jesus' illustration
with an apocalyptic timetable.

with a link to Rev. xii 6,14 and Rev. xiii 5

Dr. Barbara Thiering - (please see Wikipedia article on her)
"The Three and a Half Years of Elijah",
Novum Testamentum 23,1, 1981, pp.41-55.

"In all cases, there is a link between a period of three and a half
years and an experience of temporary deprivation, and in three,
possibly four (the wilderness in Rev. xii) cases there is a link with
Elijah."

"Commentators agree in taking both the 1290 days of Dan. xii 11 and
the 1260 days of Revelation as versions of three and a half years or
forty-two months, a figure that itself was originally a rough
estimate
of the period of desolation of the temple." The remaining numbers in
Daniel, 1335 and 2300, are left hanging but I can tie them in later.

Why is Elijah added to the Daniel tradition?

The answer involves the Qumran calendar as found in Jubilees,
1 Enoch, and the Qumran literature. Further, to find variations
of Essene (Qumran) solar calendar in the New Testament is
the gateway to Thiering pesher, her unique methodology
among all scholars.

Anybody interested in verifying her methodology must start
by studying her 1981 article and her 1992 book dealing with
Essene solar calendar schemes (several pages; see index).

As an introduction, I present her own words -

I leave it as an exercise for the reader to find out why
her methodology bears upon the correct interpretation
of the Qumran artefact noted by De Vaux -
