I am going to close this off, I was hoping someone would actually
watch the video but since no one seems to have done so I'll reveal the
buster for the kites: the hemp ropes needed to lift the stone are too
heavy for a linen kite. Linen was selected as the probable sail
material and the hemp rope for similar reasons. Dr. Clemmons is
soldiering on, see the Cal Poly release for February 8, but it is
pretty obvious the idea is stillborn.
I have seen the video but didn't think it was worth commenting on. It
made use of a metal tower, taller than the object being erected and
relied on the use of a block and tackle being powered by a kite. I
don't think the ancient egyptians had either the materials or the
technology to enable them to build and use any of these objects. The
lift was barely under control and I expect that an attempt to use it
for a practical project would lead to multiple deaths and injuries.
I think the best guess yet as to how the pyramid was built is the
spiral-ramp theory of Houdin - see:

download special software to get the full benefit. It's well worth the
effort.

Just as I thought, nobody reads beyond the obvious.
The idea behind the continued set of experiments is to back engineer
from a 21st Century system to the 2500 BC technology of the Egyptians.
The next level used a wood structure, like a compound A-frame, a silk
kite and hemp ropes. The third experiment had the larger
"obelisk" (11.5 Tons IIRC), the larger wooden structure, hemp ropes
and a linen "kite". The ropes were too heavy for the linen kite and
they went back to the drawing board.
There was a newspaper release on February 8, 2008 that said Dr.
Cremmons and a team of Cal Poly (Pomona) students were going to build
a 105 ton pyramid with the kite system. All of this I have used as
cites in posts to this newsgroup.
I still think the discussion is more interesting than those engendered
by Australian water problems, portable sundials and the fantasies
about Vikings in Oklahoma.
I'm sorry if you thought I dismissed the idea without looking at it
but I can assure you that is not the case. My problem is that I am an
engineer and, as a considerable amatuer, have already spent several
years in the past considering the problem. I've made calculations of
ramp volumes, friction, necessary forces etc. I've studied the
available tools and technology. I've put forward novel hypothese based
on inexplicable artifacts from the time. There are at first sight
probably a dozen reasons why the Cremmons idea could not have been
employed in any form by the ancient Egyptians. It might be an
interesting thing to play with, with todays tools and technologies,
but it is not a possible explanation of how the pyramids were built.
