How did they know of the existence of Ascension Island or
St Helena or Brazil? There was nothing to go to. It was
not possible to say: Let's go to America.
Crossing by accident and coming back alive to tell the others
and then taking the same route again seems not very likely
to me.
Look for a maritime history in Africa that had the vessels, the
skills, the coastal trading and the knowledge of another land several
thousand miles away..
And do not be to unexcited when you find none of the above
And don't be too exctited when you don't find them either. After all
we are talking about a time tens of thousands of years ago in the past
when both climate and sea levels were very different from today.
