One of the first things I would have looked into had ref to a site I am not familiar with!

Under an other thread there was a discussion of how people couldyears ago.crossed the ice from for example Sibiria to Greenland apr. 4000wouldDue to a short note in the discussion dealing with skii-history I1010 AD.like to put forward following:
* Greenland's oldest skii as far as now known is dated to around
specific carbonhttp://www.mnh.si.edu/arctic/html/news.htmlIt doesn't say that it is carbon dated
please observe the interesting dating of the rug (1425 AD)
* the oldest known skii found and dated was found in Kalvträsk,
Vasterbotten, Sweden in 1924. C14 dated to 5200 BP
http://www.vasterbottensmuseum.se/imuseet/skidmuseet.php
Good God Peter, how about looking a bit more into it. That
possible for you, date we ALSO discussed the other year. I also believe it'sshort beforeif you want to, to find the Professor at Umeå universitet whofind all refhe got the Professur wrote about this skii in his homepage. YouAccording to Wikipedia, the ski was dated by both C14 andWhether or not the 5200 years ago date comes from 14C is not aWould the 3 of you please stop arguing on sci.arch overyou want IF you want to find them that is!Your claim, your responsibility to back it up. That's basic 7th
grade scholarly argumentation.
Surprised you didn't know that.
...
a MINOR DETAIL?
minor detail, but rather a claim that needs to be backed up.
Asking her to back her claims with valid references is not
nit-picking but rather a part of normal scholarly discourse. It
is normally provided when asked.

The only links are back to the page cited by Inger, but several other
Swedish sites say that the ski was dated by C14.
Alan
It is your job to provide that information.
And what has unfamiliarity to do with it?
I visit unknown sites all the time in search
for information.

No Inger, it is your duty to back your claims up
with good references. Saying "look in a Swedish library"
is not enough.

Your behaviour is insulting. Pointing to a
document in Swedish, with nothing about
the 14C dating of that skies.

utanf.r byn Kalvtr.sk i Skellefte. kommun.
N.gra m.n som var i f.rd med att dika ut en
myr p.tr.ffade tv. skidor och en stav, 1,5 m
ner i myren.
trodde. Hela 5Ê200 .r! Den .r .ldre .n
den.ldsta av Egyptens pyramider, och .r
d.rmed v.rldens .ldsta skida.
minimal. Kalvtr.skskidan och m.nga andra
gamla skidor finns i Svenska Skidmuseet i
V.sterbottens museum."
