Matt,
I did use 'cathedral' as paraphrase, not entirely circular.
Just that most "large assembly areas" = henges, Greek temples,
Roman basilicas, subsequent churches, and - Yes - cathedrals,
were such places where senior figures in society demanded and
got the attention of assemblies of people. That the earliest such
did not have a roof and walls is simply lack of technology or a
requirement for an 'open' area. They all match purpose,
opportunity and (maybe/mostly) function?
What has been found is not very well annotated in the cites
below. Much of the information awaits full survey reports but
what seems to be currently available are verbal comments from
the supervisors of those involved in current digs - 17 major
trenches open in 2008 from Stonehenge across to Durrington
Walls, (£500,000 grant, 200 excavators, ~6 different university
archaeological departments) all deriving from this:-

I/C Authority.

excavation data, but extracted info.
As to Druids & TV presentations - fully agreed.
However, about being remembered, the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age
prominent burial sites
do appear to be positioned in locations of prominence in the landscape, are
suggested as representing clan
or family land markers [We are Here and Hold Our Lands with these Markers -
should make the hair on the
back of your neck stand-up when you walk the Land] . Once the tribal
holdings took over in the Iron Age
then the Markers just got bigger - the "Hill Forts" were never wholly
defensive but more expressions of power
displays by chiefs of a tribe, just like the burial mounds.

snipHey, if you are building a 'cathedral'
IF of course. However should you assume it is in fact a cathedral then you
are indulging in the logical fallacy of circular reasoning.
you DON'T have scruffy builders camping
What exactly has been found?
As to the Druids, if you have a TV presentationI do not take either seriously.

Of all the views of the afterlife including none at all, not a single one
of
them suggests anyone dead gives a *** about being remembered.
