I can only add one more detail... I agree with your point about needing
a TALL tripod so that you can get under the binocs when looking at
higher elevations, (most photo tripods aren't nearly tall enough,) but
I've found that it also comes in handy to have an "L" type bracket of
sufficient height to swing the binoculars backwards and out above the
viewer when the pan head on the tripod is swung back. This makes it
much easier to stand under the binocs when looking up.
