Steven,
most "deep sky" stuff is well, a disappointment visually. Even with a
larger telescope unless you have very dark skies all you can expect
to see is fuzzy blobs. Forget images of hubble quality.
If you want an honest assessment of what you should expect, have a
look at the book called "Turn left at Orion".
Most of the deep sky images depicted there are essentially small
grey fuzzy-balls.
As their experience grows, old-timers claim to see more detail
in the fuzz-balls. However, as a beginner myself I was deeply
disappointed with eyeballed views and started to concentrate on
photography instead.
