Certainly one way to go especially if you happen to have some appropriate
spring hanging around. But even then its probably a good idea to know what
seems to work.

Very stiff springs would be too much, I think the current ones are about the
limit for most people.

The springs do help with balance and also seem to make the motion smoother,
with less "stiction" problems but requiring more force.
