Actually the bicycle market has embraced both the older technologies and the
new technologies at the same time. Lots of steel bikes being made and you can
pay big bucks for a lugged steel frame.

Many of the new technologies are chosen because they are cheaper to manufacture
but sold as technological improvements.

If the LXD-55 is truly a reliable mount with those upgrades then it is
something to consider. Over the last year I read many threads here and on
Astromart about a variety of troubles with the LXD-55, seems like there were a
great variety of troubles, things like bad machining, porous castings, the sort
of things that a kit cannot fix.

But even then, I guess at $250 it could be a nice deal.
