UPS did not acquire Mailboxes Etc. Instead it appears that Mailboxes Etc has
licensed the UPS name as a franchise. It is still Mailboxes Etc that runs
these stores.
I was kind of pissed when I found this out. I took a large package that I
needed to ship to the "UPS Store". I needed $4000 in insurance on it and it
was pretty pricey. I asked if this store was really part of UPS. I was
given a vague answer and they claimed that there prices where the best I'd
find. Reluctantly I signed over the package to them.
When I got back home I went to the UPS web site and priced the same service
including home pickup. It was about $90 less than the "UPS Store". I called
the store up and told them I had changed my mind and did not want to ship
with them. I lambasted them for being misleading about who they were and
that their prices were *not* competitive.
I will not do business with them again.
