There are some great features in there. I am currently working on this
with Dan, and the hardware I have designed is as follows.
Si-labs processor (derivative 8052) - lots of bang for not many bucks.
"Nokia" LCD display. With adjustable LED backlight. - cheap <$8.00 and
likely to be available for a few years.
Battery charger (Li-ion) wall-wart or USB charging.
RS232 (preferred) or USB output.
5 axis "joystick" button, for user input.
PCB
Its all just about the same size as a credit card, but around 3/4" thick
(those USB connectors are a bitch)

comments.
